Post Final Comments

Following the Senior B final Senior Team Manager Tomas McKenna gave the following quote to the Clare People:

"After we were knocked out of the A Championship we made a conscious decision to target the Senior B. Once we avoided relegation we wanted to go on and win it to get something from the year. That's what we did and it's great to win a trophy. It is also a stepping stone for this team. We have a good team developing and playing and winning the Senior B has given us a taster of things on the big day. This will give us the heart for next year and maybe we can make the big breakthrough."

Senior B Championship Final (Played as curtain raiser to county final)

Miltown 2-9 Ennistymon 1-6

Miltown secured their first trophy of note, at senior level, since the Clare Shield in 1993 by defeating Ennistymon in the Senior B final. Miltown started fantastically and led by 1-6 to 0-1 after 20 minutes. Miltown's goal came through Dessie Molohan, arguably one of the finest goals to ever be seen in Cusack park. A long ball from Michael Hehir ran past the full back Brian McDonagh, Molohan swivelled and volley the ball over the Ennistymon goalkeeper from 20 yards. Miltown were rampant but insisted in handing Ennistymon 3 points before half time by giving away frees when in possession in their own half.
After the break Molohan again extended St.Joseph's lead with a pointed free, Alan Griffin added one for Ennistymon and Miltown captain, Eoin Curtin, replied for his side. The game was sealed whne Dessie Moholan broke a long ball into the path of Gordon Kelly who goaled from close range. Lawrence Healy got a consolation goal for Ennistymon but Michael Talty added a point to St.Joseph's tally in the final minute.
Eoin Curtin received the Scales Cup from Michael McDonagh.

Senior B Final

The Senior B final between Miltown and Ennistymon will be played on Sunday as a curtin raiser to the Senior county final.

Senior B Semi Final

Miltown 2-11 Shannon Gaels 0-6 (Played Sunday 7/10/07)

Miltown cruised into the Senior B final with a comprehensive win over a lacklustre Shannon Gaels in Cooraclare on Sunday evening.
The Gaels started the brighter and after 15 mins were 5pts to 1 up. At this point Miltown kicked into action and scored 1-4 without reply. Kevin Keavey, who caused the Labasheeda side problems throughout the game, goaled for St. Josephs after good work down the left by Cathal Lafferty. Miltown led 1-5 to 0-5 at half time.
The second half was all Miltown, with Shannon Gaels only managing to add 1 point to their total. Miltowns second goal came from Dessie Molohan. In truth Miltown should have won by more and did squander some good goal chances. There were some excellent displays fro St. Josephs, Michael Hehir, Shane Curtin & Kevin Burke did well in defence, Graham Kelly & Sean Meade dominated midfield, while Kevin Keavey and Dessie Molohan led the attack very effectively.
Miltown Team: C.O'Loughlin, S.Curtin, K.Burke, E.Malone, M.Hehir, Gordon Kelly, B.Curtin, Graham Kelly, S.Meade, G.Egan, C.Lafferty, M.Neylon, E.Curtin, D. Molohan, K.Keavey. (Subs: M.Barry for Lafferty, C.McKenna for S.Curtin, M.Talty for Molohan, G.Hynes for Graham Kelly & N.Quinn for Keavey.

Miltown received a walkover in the under 17 competition as Kilmihil could not field a team.

Ladies Second Best in County Final

Cooraclare 5-12 Miltown 2-13

3 goals in 10 minutes midway through the second half ended Miltown's hopes of regaining the county ladies senior title. County champions Cooraclare had the better of the opening exchanges and raced to a 2-7 to 8 points lead at half time despite being a player down for 10 minutes of the half. Miltown had what appeared to be a clear penalty turned down when the referee awarded a 13 meter free when Aoife Healy appeared to be felled well inside the box by Eithne Morrissey.

St. Joseph's burst out of the blocks in the second half and after 8 minutes led 2-9 to 2-7, with the goals coming from Michelle McCaw and the ever dangerous Fiona Lafferty. However, Miltown could not open the gap to 3 points and this proved fatal as Cooraclare finished strongly and ended Miltown's challenge.

In truth, on the day too many of Miltown's players failed to perform and their defence was under sever pressure for long periods.

Miltown Team: C.Shannon, K.Egan, L.Griffin, S. Lafferty, N.Coyne, D. Killeen, M. Lenihan, S. Malone, T. Glynn, S. Murphy, A. Healy, D. Kelly, D. Sexton, M. McCaw, F. Lafferty. (Subs) V. Hehir for M. Lenihan, A. McCaw for C. Shannon, K.Galvin for D. Sexton.
