Minors Win

Miltown 4-17 N.Eoin\O'Currys 2-10

Miltown got their minor championship campaign back on track on Wednesday evening in Miltown with a comprehensive victory over their opponents from the peninsula. In an open exciting game played in perfect conditions Miltown led 2-8 to 5 points at half time and despite a brief N'Eoin\O'Currys rally at the start of the second half Miltown pulled away to record a first victory of the campaign in their second outing.
The return of county minor Kieran Malone from injury was a boost to the side and he was prominent throughout.

Local Referee on the Munster Scene

Munster U16 Final                                  Clare v Galway Senior Challenge

Miltown Referee Barry Kellys career continued on its upward path last weekend when he refereed his first Munster games at the Munster U16 Competition in Rathkeale. Barry took charge of the first round game between Tipperary and one of the two Cork sides. He followed this by officiating in the shield semi final between Cork and Limerick. To cap off a great day, Barry was given the honour of being the man in the middle for the Munster final between Tipperary and S.Kerry.After two matches played in sweltering heat Barry showed his fitness and played his part in an exciting final eventually won by the Kingdom.Hopefully this tournament will mark the beginning of a long and successful career for Barry on the provincial and national scene in years to come.Roll on Croke Park!!!
Umpires for the day were Tara Rynne,Maurice Reidy,Sean Ryan and Michael Howe.

Miltown's other Referee Niall Quinn is also making his mark on the local scene in only his second season as an official and we wish both lads all the best.

U14 Championship

Miltown 2 - 9 N.Eoin\O'Currys 4 - 18

Miltown U14s fell to their first defeat of the championship on Monday evening in Cross against a very strong peninsular amalgamation.Trailing 3-11 to 2-1 after a disappointing first half Miltown turned in a very impressive second half performance to stage a gallant fightback which unfortunately fell short. The difference in physicality between the sides proved too much for Miltown's young side most of whom will be underage again next year.

Girl’s U-14 Division 2 final
The U-14 division 2 girl’s final was a closely contested game played between Miltown Malbay and Liscannor at Ennistymon field Thursday 27th June. The game was played in near perfect conditions and was quite an entertaining affair throughout. Liscannor had the better of the opening exchanges and led 1-4 to 0-0 by the tenth minute of the game, with Meg Brennan the top scorer for the North Clare girls.
However, Miltown began to kick into gear following these opening ten minutes and Eimear Keane opened the St. Joseph’s girls account with a well taken goal. The rest of the half was nip and tuck with the team’s level at half time; Miltown Malbay’s 2-4 to Liscannor’s 1-7.
Miltown Malbay began the second half with a breeze at their backs, and they utilised the conditions to open with an Aine Keane goal followed by two well taken points from corner forward Laura Keane.
The Liscannor girls battled against the breeze and went into the final stages of the game trailing by just two points, resulting from great scores by Meg Brennan and Sinead Hogan. The Miltown Malbay girls managed to pull through with points from Aoife Hehir and Grainne Meade and finish the game victorious on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-9.
Miltown Malbay were led by their joint captains Ciara O’Sullivan and Brid Hayes, who played outstanding roles at full and centre-back respectively. Liscannor captain Elaine Shannon played a pivotal role for Liscannor along with Meg Brennan.
The cup was presented to the Miltown Malbay joint captains by county secretary, James Laffety, to a rapturous applause from the St. Joseph’s girls. The cup will be displayed at the team sponsor’s new store, Jones SuperValu on the Ennis Road, Miltown Malbay.

Minor Championship Opener

Miltown 1 - 10 Cooraclare 3 - 9

As the old saying goes ,goals win games and this was certainly the case in Cooraclare on Wednesday evening as the Miltown minors went down to an opening day defeat in the Minor Championship.Despite playing very well in the first half Miltown found themselves behind by four points on a score line of 1 - 6 to 5 points ,Miltowns scores coming from Sean Malone (4) and Cormac Murray.
Miltown upped their game in the second half and a Martin Mongon goal brought them right back in to the game ,unfortunately two Cooraclare goals eventually put an end to Miltowns hopes, however this very young side never gave up and battled to the final whistle.Sean Malone (4) and Enda McGuane got Miltown's points in the second half.
