Seniors defeated but advance to Cusack Cup semi

St Josephs Miltown senior side suffered their first defeat of the Cusack Cup this evening against Doonbeg but have advanced to the Cusack Cup division 1 semi final. Missing 10 players who would be likely to feature due to a variety of factors including, summer emigration, injuries, leaving cert commitments, Miltown were always up against playing Doonbeg and were defeated on a 1-14 to 0-8 scoreline. Miltown trailed at half time by 0-7 to 0-4 having played with the breeze. David Tubridy fresh from his heroics versus Limerick last week killed off the Miltown challenge in the second half by knocking over some classy points. Miltown will now meet St. Josephs Doora Barefield in a semi final with the winners advancing to meet Kilmurry Ibrickane in the final. The team lined out as follows: Niall Quinn (0-1), Brendan O'Brien, Enda Malone (0-1), Martin Rynne, Enda O'Gorman, Gordon Kelly (0-1), Ian Sexton, Sean Meade, John Meade (0-1), Brian Curtin, Seanie Malone (0-1), Gary Egan, Dessie Molohan (0-3), Gerard Malone, Michael Hehir. O'Gorman cup semi final details

The semi final game between St. Josephs Miltown and Kilmurry Ibrickane has being rescheduled to Monday at 7:30 in Miltown due to the involvement of a number of players on both sides with the Clare juniors against Waterford in the Munster semi final this Saturday. Miltown have a very long injury list at the moment but they enter a crucial week with the O'Gorman cup semi final on Monday followed by a crucial Cusack Cup game with Doonbeg on Saturday. The club extends best wishes to Gordon Kelly who has being selected at centre back on the Clare senior team to face Limerick in the Munster senior semi final this Saturday. His brother Graham is most unfortunate to miss out on a starting place having broken his hand in training this week. Best wishes are also extended to Dessie Molohan, Seanie Malone and Niall Quinn who will be featuring for the Clare juniors. Michéal Malone is also part of the squad but is a major doubt due to an injury sustained in training

Giants of the game

St. Josephs Miltown GAA club were hugely honoured recently to have two club members selected on the Irish Independent "Giants of the Game" Clare football team of the last 50 years. Paddy McMahon (Mahoney) and Peadar Lynch played with distinction for club and county and are heartily congratulated on their well deserved recognition. A number of other club members who played with Clare for many years and with great distinction can be considered very unlucky to miss out on selection.
