Ladies Retain League Title

Miltown 2-8 Cooraclare 2-2

Miltown led at half time at Hennessy Park, after playing with the aid of a very strong wind. Cooraclare had scored a goal against the run of play late in the half to leave 8 points between the sides 1-8 to 1-0. Niamh Coyne had scored Miltown's goal but only wayward shooting and good goalkeeping had kept Cooraclre in the game. The question at half time was would 8 points be enough.
Well it was expert defending and a Fiona Lafferty goal were enough for Miltown to be crowned Senior League Champions 2007.
It was a fitting end to what is probably DOB's last game in charge of the Ladies. After 5 years he is to step down, during this period he has won 1 Senior Championship , 2 Senior Leagues, 3 Minor Championships and a Junior championship.
After the game Aoife Healy accepted the cup from Ladies

Over 40s draw - Ballyfin 2-7 Miltown 2-7

A game played in the true spirit of good fun ended in a draw as the visiting side managed to close the gap late on. Martin Flynn had put Miltown ahead from the spot after Mickey Wilson awarded Miltown a penalty following Malty being assaulted in the box. Score of the game though went to John JC for his beautiful right footed effort from the left wing with the outside of the boot, Never lost it JC!!!
Well done to everyone involved on the day and hopefully it will become an annual event.

Miltown v Ballyfin - Over 40s

Hennessy Park will take a trip back in time on Saturday, as the over 40s from Miltown take on Laois side Ballyfin in a charity game. Many famous names and some not so famous, will take to the field to give an exhibition of football or make an exhibition of themselves possibly.
There will be huge anticipation as names like Joe Cullen, Martin Curtin, Martin Flynn and Gerry Curtin grace the hallow turf for one more time. We all hope, of course, that Noel Curtin manages not to clatter anyone before the ball is thrown in.
The highlight of the day will definitely be the possibility of catching a glimpse of Malty strutting his stuff on the pitch, I wonder if he'll have his phone on him during the match. We've all heard great tales of his football past, from him mainly, so Saturday will be a chance for us all to experience it first hand.

So come along on Saturday and cheers on the lads, one more time!!!!

Miltown Junior Ladies Champions 2007

Post Final Comments

Following the Senior B final Senior Team Manager Tomas McKenna gave the following quote to the Clare People:

"After we were knocked out of the A Championship we made a conscious decision to target the Senior B. Once we avoided relegation we wanted to go on and win it to get something from the year. That's what we did and it's great to win a trophy. It is also a stepping stone for this team. We have a good team developing and playing and winning the Senior B has given us a taster of things on the big day. This will give us the heart for next year and maybe we can make the big breakthrough."

Senior B Champions 2007

Senior B Championship Final (Played as curtain raiser to county final)

Miltown 2-9 Ennistymon 1-6

Miltown secured their first trophy of note, at senior level, since the Clare Shield in 1993 by defeating Ennistymon in the Senior B final. Miltown started fantastically and led by 1-6 to 0-1 after 20 minutes. Miltown's goal came through Dessie Molohan, arguably one of the finest goals to ever be seen in Cusack park. A long ball from Michael Hehir ran past the full back Brian McDonagh, Molohan swivelled and volley the ball over the Ennistymon goalkeeper from 20 yards. Miltown were rampant but insisted in handing Ennistymon 3 points before half time by giving away frees when in possession in their own half.
After the break Molohan again extended St.Joseph's lead with a pointed free, Alan Griffin added one for Ennistymon and Miltown captain, Eoin Curtin, replied for his side. The game was sealed whne Dessie Moholan broke a long ball into the path of Gordon Kelly who goaled from close range. Lawrence Healy got a consolation goal for Ennistymon but Michael Talty added a point to St.Joseph's tally in the final minute.
Eoin Curtin received the Scales Cup from Michael McDonagh.
Miltown Team: C.O'Loughlin, E.Malone, K.Burke, S.Curtin, B.Curtin, Gordon Kelly, M.Hehir, Graham Kelly, S.Meade, G.Hynes, G.Egan, M.Neylon, E.Curtin, D.Molohan, K.Keavey. Subs: N.Quinn for C.O'Loughlin, P.Hennessy for M.Hehir, M.Barry for G.Hynes, J.Meade for M.Neylon & M.Talty for G.Egan.

Senior B Final

The Senior B final between Miltown and Ennistymon will be played on Sunday as a curtin raiser to the Senior county final.

Senior B Semi Final

Miltown 2-11 Shannon Gaels 0-6 (Played Sunday 7/10/07)

Miltown cruised into the Senior B final with a comprehensive win over a lacklustre Shannon Gaels in Cooraclare on Sunday evening.
The Gaels started the brighter and after 15 mins were 5pts to 1 up. At this point Miltown kicked into action and scored 1-4 without reply. Kevin Keavey, who caused the Labasheeda side problems throughout the game, goaled for St. Josephs after good work down the left by Cathal Lafferty. Miltown led 1-5 to 0-5 at half time.
The second half was all Miltown, with Shannon Gaels only managing to add 1 point to their total. Miltowns second goal came from Dessie Molohan. In truth Miltown should have won by more and did squander some good goal chances. There were some excellent displays fro St. Josephs, Michael Hehir, Shane Curtin & Kevin Burke did well in defence, Graham Kelly & Sean Meade dominated midfield, while Kevin Keavey and Dessie Molohan led the attack very effectively.
Miltown Team: C.O'Loughlin, S.Curtin, K.Burke, E.Malone, M.Hehir, Gordon Kelly, B.Curtin, Graham Kelly, S.Meade, G.Egan, C.Lafferty, M.Neylon, E.Curtin, D. Molohan, K.Keavey. (Subs: M.Barry for Lafferty, C.McKenna for S.Curtin, M.Talty for Molohan, G.Hynes for Graham Kelly & N.Quinn for Keavey.

Walkover in under 17's

Miltown received a walkover in the under 17 competition as Kilmihil could not field a team.

Ladies Second Best in County Final

Cooraclare 5-12 Miltown 2-13

3 goals in 10 minutes midway through the second half ended Miltown's hopes of regaining the county ladies senior title. County champions Cooraclare had the better of the opening exchanges and raced to a 2-7 to 8 points lead at half time despite being a player down for 10 minutes of the half. Miltown had what appeared to be a clear penalty turned down when the referee awarded a 13 meter free when Aoife Healy appeared to be felled well inside the box by Eithne Morrissey.

St. Joseph's burst out of the blocks in the second half and after 8 minutes led 2-9 to 2-7, with the goals coming from Michelle McCaw and the ever dangerous Fiona Lafferty. However, Miltown could not open the gap to 3 points and this proved fatal as Cooraclare finished strongly and ended Miltown's challenge.

In truth, on the day too many of Miltown's players failed to perform and their defence was under sever pressure for long periods.

Miltown Team: C.Shannon, K.Egan, L.Griffin, S. Lafferty, N.Coyne, D. Killeen, M. Lenihan, S. Malone, T. Glynn, S. Murphy, A. Healy, D. Kelly, D. Sexton, M. McCaw, F. Lafferty. (Subs) V. Hehir for M. Lenihan, A. McCaw for C. Shannon, K.Galvin for D. Sexton.

Miltown absolutely destroyed Coolmeen in the county semi final. Coolmeen were no match for Miltown at any stage and the game was a complete no contest. Miltown led 4-6 to 0-1 at half time. The St. Joseph's goals came from Fiona Lafferty (2), Karen Galvin, Denise Sexton, Aoife Healy and Michelle McCaw.

They now face Cooraclare in the final.

Minors Exit Championship

Ennistymon 3-6 Miltown 0-8
(Played 16/9/07)

Miltown bowed out of the minor championship following this defeat to Ennistymon in Quilty. Ennistymon had the edge over their opponents in most positions and led 2-2 to 6 at half time. Joe Curtin scored all of Miltown's 8 points , 4 from play and was the only bright spot in an under performing attack and midfield. The defence was under pressure for large periods of the game and but for a number of good saves from Liam O'Brien the difference could have been larger.

Miltown Team: L.O'Brien, D. Cleary, C. McGuane, J. Sexton, E. O'Gorman, S. Curtin, E. O'Brien, G. Curtin, P. Cleary, G. Malone, M. Malone, D. Talty, E. Fox, J. Curtin, S. Malone. Subs: T. Flynn for E.O'Gorman & B.O'Brien for D. Cleary

Minors Derby Win

Miltown 2-5 Kilmurray Ibrickane 0-6

Miltown face Ennistymon in a play off for the last semi final place in the minor A championship, following their exciting win over Kilmurray Ibrickane at Hennessy Park last night.
Kilmurray opened the scoring through Mark McCarthy and led 3 points to 1, following scores from corner forward Mark Frawley and again Mark McCarthy. Enda Fox got his second point to close the gap and Joe Curtin leveled the game at half time with a flicked point.
Kilmurray went back in front, 5 to 3, again from the boot of McCarthy. Joe Curtin pointed again to put the minimum between the sides. Miltown were then awarded a controversial penalty by Ml Rock, when Peter O'Dwyer appeared to foul the ball in the Kilmurray box, Joe Curtin duly tucked away the spot kick to put the home side in front for the first time. Full Forward, McCarthy, pulled a point back but Sean Malone made it 1-5 to 6 when he pointed from close range. Thomas Flynn sealed the result when he got Miltown's second goal in injury time.

Miltown Team: L O'Brien, D Cleary, C McGuane, J Sexton, E O'Gorman, S Curtin, E O'Brien, P Cleary, G Curtin, G Malone, M Malone, D Talty, E Fox, J Curtin, S Malone. (Subs) T Flynn, D O'Malley, C McHugh, P Queally, E McDonagh.

Senior Status Secure following Breckans win

Miltown 2-8 St. Breckans 0-7

Miltown secured senior status for 2008 by defeating St.Breckans in the Senior B quarter final. Miltown await the winners of the Shannon Gaels/O'Curry's replay in the semi final.

St. Joseph's started poorly but still led at half time 5 points to 4, with scores from Garry Egan, Kevin Keavey & Dessie Molohan. A Graham Kelly point early in the second half pushed Miltown further in front and St. Breckans seemed to be loosing touch as Eoin Curtin made it 7 to 4 from a placed ball. Breckan's problems worsened when Brian Curtin raced through the centre to fire a shot goalward, Hawes made a fantastic save but the ball was bundled home by Dessie Molohan with some help from the Lisdoon defence. Michael Talty and Garret Hynes were introduced with Talty making an immediate impression with a nice point. He followed this up with a well taken goal which will do his claim for a regular start no harm whatsoever.

Miltown Team: C.O'Loughlin, S.Curtin, K.Burke, E.Malone, B.Curtin, Gordon Kelly, M.Hehir, Graham Kelly, S.Meade, G.Egan, M.Barry, M.Neylon, E.Curtin, D.Molohan, K.Keavey. (Subs) G.Hynes for G.Egan, M.Talty for D.Molohan & C.Lafferty for M.Barry
Scorers: D.Molohan 1-3, M.Talty 1-1, E.Curtin, Graham Kelly, K.Keavey & G.Egan all 1pt.

Ladies Open Account with Win

Miltown 2-13 Cooraclare 2-8
After being completely outplayed in the first half of this Senior championship, tie Miltown trailed by 7 points at half time, 0-8 to 0-1. Nobody in Doonbeg could have envisaged the turn around in fortunes. Miltown took control at midfield and 10 minutes after the restart Sandra Malone drew Miltown level with a long range goal. Cooraclare opened the gap again with a goal from a free, but Miltown rallied and went 1 point in front through some excellent free taking, in difficult conditions, from Aoife Healy. However Cooraclare got another goal, again from a free, to edge in front with 10 minutes to go. Miltown's resilience was evident and Aoife Helay's free had Miltown in front before Fiona Lafferty won a good ball in the square and finished from an acute angle to ensure the victory.
St. Joseph's face The Banner next, knowing that a win will ensure a semi final date with either Coolmeen or Crusheen. A loss at this stage will eliminate The Banner from the championship so victory won't be easily won, but Miltown will be out to avenge last seasons County Semi Final defeat.

Miltown Team: C.Shannon, K.Egan, L.Griffin, C.Curtin, V.Hehir, D.Killeen, S. Lafferty, D.Kelly, S. Malone, N. Coyne, A.Healy, S.Murphy, D.Sexton, M.McCaw, F.Lafferty. (Subs) T.Glynn

Minors: Wolfe Tones 3-5 Miltown 1-8

The Minors suffered their second loss of the minor championship at home to Wolfe Tones last night. Miltown started well with good defensive play from Eoin O'Brien and Gearoid Curtin. They led 4 points to 1 when Seanie Malone slipped the ball apst the Wolfe Tones goalie to put Miltown 6 ahead. Wolfe Tones responded immediately, Leahy rounded Colin McGuane and drove the ball past Padraig Queally. St. Joseph's led 1-4 to 1-1 at the break.
Shannon were first out of the blocks in the second half and closed the deficit to 2. Joe Curtin, who scored 6 points on the night, had a chance to open the gap further but he slipped the ball wide when one on one with the keeper. Wolfe Tones drew in front when Queally was lobbed and further points left Miltown 5 a drift. The Miltown closed the gap though Joe Curtin but Wolfe Tones got another goal to leave the gap at 6 again. Enda Fox and Joe Curtin pointed to leave 3 between them but time was not on Miltown's side.
Miltown will be counting the cost of the game today with 4 injury concerns ahead of the next game versus Ennistymon. David Talty (Wrist), Enda O'Gorman (Ankle), Gearoid Curtin (Knee) and Seanie Malone (Hand), will all face a race against time to be fit for Wednesday week.

Juniors go down to Doonbeg

Doonbeg 1-13 Miltown 1-5

Despite only having 16 players Miltown made a game of this Junior Championship game in Quilty until 5 minutes form the end. David Murrihy opened the scoring with a free before Doonbeg scored 4 points unanswered, Declan Rynne got Miltown's second point after 20 minutes. Despite being second best for most of the half Miltown were only 6 points down at half time, 0-8 to 0-2.
Miltown were resurgent after the break, Robbie Healy scored from the penalty spot following a foul by John O'Neill on Padraig Queally. Further scores from Gerard Malone, Kieran Shannon and a 45 from Robbie Healy left the gap at 3, 0-11 to 1-5. The deficit was nearly wiped out completely when Colm Haugh rounded his man but lost control of the ball when a goal seemed sure. Doonbeg sealed the game with a Derek Smyth goal 4 minutes from time.

Miltown Team: R.Healy, C.McHugh, J.O'Malley, S.O'Connell, D.Murrihy, B.Kelly, R.Keavey, G.Malone, J.O'Sullivan, P.Queally, D.Rynne,T.Meade, J.Clancy, M.Howe, C.Haugh. (Sub) K.Shannon

Miltown bow out of Senior Championship

Eire Og 0-8 Miltown 0-6.

Following defeat to Eire Og in Kilmihil on Saturday afternoon, Miltown can now not qualify for the Senior Football Quarter Finals. St. Joseph's made 2 changes to the side which lost to Lissycasey, Conor McKenna came in for the suspended Graham Kelly and Niall Quinn replaced Mikey Neylon who was injured.
Miltown started very well and dominated the opening exchanges. they led 0-4 to 0- 1 after about 15 minutes of the first half. Sean Meade was in control in the centre of the field and Dessie Molohan kicked some fine scores. At the break there was a two point gap, 0-6 to 0-4.
The second half was a different story, Eire Og dominated from the throw in and only some extremely poor shooting kept Miltown in the contest. For their part, St.Joseph's found it difficult to create any kind of platform to get scores from and struggled to win ball at midfield. Kevin Keavey had a great chance to put St. Joseph's back in front when he found himself clear 25 yards out, with the goal at his mercy but his shot produced a good save from Eire Og goalie, Shane O'Connell. With less than 10 minutes to go Eire Og had managed to sneak two points in front and despite Miltown's best efforts the gap remained.

Miltown Team: C.O'Loughlin, P.Hennessy, K.Burke, E.Malone, C.McKenna, Gordon Kelly, B.Curtin, S.Meade, C.Lafferty, S.Curtin, D.Molohan, J.Meade, E.Curtin (C), M.Barry, N.Quinn. Subs: M.Hehir, M.Talty, Gordon Kelly, K.Keavey, G.Egan.

In the end Ennistymon's better use of possession and ability to take the scoring opportunities that presented themselves proved decisive.

Miltown suffered a four point defeat to Lissycasey in the first round of senior championship in Doonbeg last night. A good move down the right between Danny Lynch and Cathal McMahon, released Derek McMahon who drove the ball past Conor O'Loughlin. Dessie Molohan narrowly missed a goal late in the first half. He glided past 2 Lissycasey defenders but lashed his shot wide of the far post. Miltown battled well and trailed by 2 points at half time, 1-4 to 0-5.
