Munster Intermediate Final

Miltown 0 -7  Clyda Rovers 0 - 10

Miltown's 2013 campaign ended with defeat in the Munster Intermediate Final to Clyda Rovers from Cork in the Gaelic Grounds on Saturday in a game played in ideal conditions in front of an official attendance of 1,010
Miltown got off to the perfect start and were four points up after only six minutes with scores from Conor Cleary (2),Eoin Cleary and Eoin Curtin giving the large Miltown support hope of a first Munster crown.
Clyda however gained a foothold and their possession based game though very unattractive proved effective and by the end of the first quarter they were on level terms with Miltown finding it very hard to get their hands on the ball.
At the halftime whistle Clyda had a two point lead on a scoreline of six points to four and were dominant in a lot of positions.Miltown introduced Micheal Malone at half time but unfortunately Clyda still maintained a stranglehold on possession and Miltown found scores very hard to come by,it was only as the final whistle approached that they tagged on three points from Eoin Cleary (2) and Eoin Curtin. All hopes then rested on a goal but unfortunately Clyda shut up shop and held on to win the game.

Munster Intermediate championship

Miltown 1-8 Currow 1-7

On a cold wet afternoon in the famous Hennessy Park Miltown lit up the Munster Intermediate championship with an historic victory over Kerry champions Currow to record a first victory by a Clare club over Kerry opposition in this competition.
The foundations for the victory were laid in a very impressive first half display which meant Miltown held a half time lead of  6 points 3 with scores from Eoin Cleary (2) Darragh Mc Donagh (2),Seanie Malone and Conor Cleary. The dismissal of Paudie Collins just before half time seemed to galvanise the Currow team who cut the gap to the minimum early in the second half before a Kevin Keavey point settled Miltown.
The decisive score for Miltown a goal from Gordon Kelly following great work from Eoin Cleary re-established a five point lead and a Micheal Malone point seemed to put the hosts in control.
Currow showed their battling qualities and a lucky goal brought them right back into the game. With minutes remaining there was only the bare minimum between the teams, but with Miltown showing great composure and a colossal work rate there was only going to be one winner.
The final whistle was greeted with scenes of great celebration as another page was added to the illustrious history of Miltown St.Josephs.Great credit must be given to the players and management who have worked so hard and played so well after the disappointment of last year and brought us to our first Munster final

Munster Intermediate Championship

Miltown face the Kerry champions Currow in Miltown at 2pm on Sunday.
So here is a brief history of our opponents.

Currow GAA Club was founded in 1911 when Currow Wolfe Tones and Currans who were two existing teams in the parish of Killentierna joined together. This amalgamation was the origin of how Currow got its team colours of black & amber - one team wore black and the other team wore amber.
Currow were one of the founding clubs when the East Kerry Board was formed in 1925 and Currow participated in East Kerry and the Castleisland District League at various times over the next number of years. The club continued to grow in strength and in 1928 Currow participated in the Senior County championship where they lost to a more experienced Strand Road team.
In 1982 the club won its first county title defeating near neighbours Scartaglen to win the Novice Championship & in 1983 the club opened its redeveloped pitch and new dressing rooms. In 1988 the club won its second county title, the Junior Championship defeating Rathmore and the club contested its first Intermediate Championship final in 1997 but lost out to Kilcummin. The club won its first & only East Kerry Championship O’Donoghue Cup in 1998 defeating Glenflesk, avenging the loss of the previous year’s final at the hands of the same opposition. Currow also lost the 1992 O’Donoghue Cup final by the narrowest of margins to Dr. Crokes in a classic.
2007 saw the launch of the official club crest with the design representing the three bridges that span the Brown Flesk River as it flows through the three villages of the parish - Currow, Currans and Kilsarcon. The hurling sticks on the crest represent the various camogie and hurling teams that existed at various stages in the clubs history.
The club's centenary year of 2011 saw the official opening of new dressing rooms, sand-based pitch, new stand & electronic scoreboard, marvellous facilities which are a great credit to the club & the people of the parish.
The senior team currently lie in second place in Div. 2 of the county league & a win in the final round would see a return to the top flight.

Munster Intermediate Championship

Miltown 3-11 St.Marys Sean Finns 0-7

Making their first appearance in the Munster Club Championship for twenty three years Miltown began their Intermediate provincial campaign with a comprehensive victory over Limerick champions St.Marys Sean Finns from Rathkeale in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

After a slow start Miltown burst into life with two goals in quick succession from Seanie Malone and Gearoid Curtin to lay the foundations for a highly impressive performance which gave Miltown a ten point lead at the break.

St Marys attempts at a comeback at the start of the second half were quickly snuffed out by the Miltown defence with Enda O'Gorman in fine form. With midfield dominance from Conor Cleary and Darragh Mc Donagh giving the forwards plenty of quality possession Miltown turned on the power and Brian Curtins 48th minute goal killed off any hopes of a St Marys revival.

Next up for Miltown is a home game versus Currow from Kerry on Sunday at 2pm.
