Miltown v The Banner

Miltown 1-6  The Banner 1-6

Miltown U16's were cruelly denied a deserved victory in the U16 Shield final in Cusack Park on Sunday evening when a late goal from The Banner ensured that the teams would have to meet again to decide this years title.

The first half was a tight affair played in heavy rain which at times made handling very difficult. An early Eoin Looney goal and two points from the impressive Sean Clancy meant that Miltown went in at half time level on a scoreline of 1-2 to 0-5.The second half saw Miltown establish control with some fine attacking football allied to a strong and disciplined defence which caused numerous problems for their opponents.Scores from Sean Clancy (2), Zack Whelehan and Micheal Murray and some impressive goalkeeping from Euan Reidy meant Miltown went into the closing stages leading by three points.

The Banner increased the pressure on Miltown in the final minutes and were rewarded when a last minute goal finally broke the Miltown rearguard action and meant the sides will have to meet again in Kilfenora on Friday 22nd at 7pm.

Miltown 0-8 KIB 0-8

The second half produced a much improved performance from the home side when playing into the breeze with the half back line of Graham Kelly,Gordon Kelly and Eoin O'Brien particularly prominent.Four points from the boot of Eoin Cleary, (two from play) ensured that there was little between the sides coming into the closing ten minutes and a point from Micheal Malone ensured both sides left Hennessy Park with honours intact.

Draws were the order of the weekend between Miltown and KIB as both sides played out an other hard fought draw in the Division 5 clash played in Quilty on Saturday. That game finished on a scoreline of Miltown 0-8 KIB 1-5 which meant for the second year in a row there was nothing to separate the sides.
