Seniors defeated in tight contest

Liscannor 0-8 Miltown 1-4 @ Liscannor 13/03/11

Miltown we're left wondering, how this one slipped away, as they went down by the narrowest of margins to Liscannor. Liscannor had the aid of the strong breeze in the first half and raced five points in front, with scores from Alan Clohessy (3), Ronan Slattery and Kieran Considine. Liscannor's Alan Flaherty was lucky not be dismissed following a heavy challenge on Kevin Burke, but he only saw yellow. Miltown failed to adjust to the wind and missed a number of good point scoring opportunities. However, a defensive mix up in the Lisannor full back line gift Enda Malone a gilt edged goal chance which he duly took. The home side added two further points through Clohessy and Slattery to lead, 0-7 to 1-0 at the break.
St.Joseph's emerged much more focussed in the second half but we're dealt a huge blow after 5 minutes when Kevin Keavey was sent off for a second yellow following a foul on Ronan Slattery. Miltown rallied and Joe Curtin, who looked dangerous throughout, kicked a fine point. Curtin was again involved when he was felled for a penalty but Seanie Malone drove narrowly wide. Alan Clohessy added Liscannor only score of the half at this stage to leave 4 between the sides. Well on top now, Miltown rained ball on full forward Michael Barry without creating any real chance. The introduction of Dessie Molohan added to Miltown's firepower and he stroked over 3 points. With time running out Joe Curtin had a chance to win it for Miltown but he shot straight at the goalie.

Miltown Team: N.Quinn, E.Malone, Gordon Kelly, D.Cleary, G.Curtin, K.Burke, I.Sexton, S.Meade, D.McDonagh, B.Curtin, G.Egan, K.Keavey, J.Meade, S.Malone, J.Curtin. Subs: Graham Kelly for Burke, M.Barry for Egan, D.Molohan for S.Malone, E. O'Gorman for D.McDonagh.
