Cusack Cup 2015 Round 4

Miltown v Lissycasey  28-04-2015

Miltown 0-8 Lissycasey 2-3

Miltown fell to their second defeat of the 2015 Cusack Cup when going down by a single point to Lissycasey in terrible conditions in Lissycasey. The game started in a downpour and with a cold biting wind adding to the adding to the discomfort. The weather didn't seem to bother the home side who goaled within 17 seconds of the throw in with the wind to their backs.A second goal after just 8 minutes left Miltown who were finding the massed Lissycasey defence difficult to breakdown , facing an uphill battle.Points from Kieran Malone (2) and a Conor Cleary free were all Miltown could muster in the opening 30 and they went in trailing on a scoreline of 2-3 to 0-3.
The second half showed a marked improvement from Miltown as they set about reeling in the home side.An Eoin Curtin point followed by 2 long range efforts from Conor Cleary & John Meade brought Miltown to within a goal.A black card for the lively Eoin Curtin and injuries to Shane Curtin & Graham Kelly took some of the momentum out of the Miltown fightback and despite 2 points from Conor Cleary Miltown were unable to get the equaliser and Lissycasey who failed to score in the second half held out for a one point win as the darkness drew in.

Miltown 1-5 Clondegad 1-15

Miltown suffered their first defeat of the 2015 Cusack Cup campaign when going down by 10 points to Clondegad in a sunny Ballynacally on Sunday.
Missing a number of players through injury Miltown were slow to settle in the first half and Clondegad held a three point lead before a Micheal Malone point from play opened their account after 14 minutes. However as the half wore on Miltown began the get the better of proceedings with Darragh McDonagh prominent in midfield.Points from Kieran Malone, Eoin Curtin and Kevin Keavey meant the sides went in level at half time on a scoreline of 4 points a piece.
The second half started well for the visitors with another Micheal Malone point securing the lead. However this proved to be a short lived lead and as Clondegad tightened the screw Miltown found scores very hard to come by, their only other score being a well taken goal by Kieran Malone after 46 minutes. In the mean time Clondegad had added 5 points and a 55th minute goal signalled the end of Miltowns hopes. The home side went on to score 6 unanswered points from play in the final 10 minutes to run out comprehensive winners.

Miltown v Doonbeg 07-04-2015

Miltown 2-6 Doonbeg 0-9

Miltown picked up their first victory of the 2015 campaign with a merited victory over Doonbeg in Doonbeg on Monday. In a game played in near ideal conditions both sides found scores hard to come by in the opening quarter. Miltown's first score came in the eighth minute when Conor Cleary opened his account. They had to wait almost fifteen minutes for their second, a free from Kevin Keavey.,while the home side had scored three points in the mean time..A smart well taken goal from Kevin Keavey from a Brian Curtin pass was quickly followed by an Eoin Curtin point,to give Miltown the upper hand heading towards half time ,with a point from Doonbeg leaving the score 1-3 to 0-4 at the interval.
The second half started inwhirlwind fashion for the visitiors with an Eoin Curtin point from play quickly followed by a Brian Curtin goal after a great crossfield ball from Gearoid Curtin. Doonbeg refused to lie down and  three points without reply brought them to within one score before an Eoin Curtin free stalled the home sides fightback.A great save from Sean O'Brien down low to his right prevented a certain Doonbeg goal and a further point from an Eoin Curtin free meant that despite immense Doonbeg pressure and a further point Miltown emerged deserving winners.
