U16s suffer heavy defeat to Ennistymon

U16 championship Round 2 Played @ Miltown 3/3/13

Ennistymon 4-15 Miltown 1-3

Miltown made it 1 win and 1 loss in the opening rounds of the under 16 championship when they suffered a disappointing defeat to Ennistymon last Saturday. St.Joseph's started well and led in the opening minutes but as the game progressed Ennistymon dominated for large periods and stretched the Miltown defence on a number of occasions. In fact but for a number of excellent saves from Paul Tubridy in goal things could have been distinctly worse. Sean Malone got Miltown solatairy goal in the second half with a trademark solo run and powerful finish which beat the keeper at the near post. On a difficulty day there were some decent perfomances from Colin Hehir, Paul Tubridy, Sean Malone and Sean Hanrahan.
Miltown Team: P.Tubridy, S.Crowe, D.Lynch, R.Sexton, J.Flanagan, S.Hanrahan, J.Marrinan, C.Hehir, D.Curtin, D.Meade, C.Mongon, J.Carmody, N.Hehir, S.Malone, C.Murray. Subs: P.Murray, P.Haran, C.Byrne, C.O'Reilly & J. O'Connor

AGM update

The following is the extract from the Clare Champion newspaper on the St. Josephs Miltown Malbay AGM: There was a very large crowd at the re-convened annual general meeting of Miltown St Joseph’s GAA Club. The outgoing chairman, Gerard McMahon, in his address, thanked all who worked for the club during his term as chairman and particularly his fellow officers, Francis Cahill and Tommy Byrne. He said while 2012 was a difficult year, he had no doubt the club would bounce back quickly. Outgoing secretary, Francis Cahill gave a detailed account of the club’s activities during the year while outgoing treasurer, Tommy Byrne reported that income for the year exceeded expenditure. None of the three officers sought re-election. Former Miltown and Clare footballer, Gerry Curtin was elected chairman. He complimented the outgoing officers for their work for the club. He said he looked forward to the challenges that lay ahead and with proper commitment and discipline by all the members, they can be overcome. He also called for more support for the club’s Lotto. The following officers were elected: trustees, Noel Walsh, Martin Marrinan, John Reidy; president, V Rev Canon Seamus Mullen; vice-presidents, Aidan Carroll and Martin Marrinan; chairman, Gerry Curtin; vice-chairman, John Cleary; secretary, Michael Howe; assistant secretary: Eoin McDonagh; treasurer, Sean O’Brien; assistant treasurer, Jonathan Wilson; registrar, Maurice Reidy; county board representative, Noel Walsh; finance committee, Sean O’Brien, Jonathan Wilson, Cathal O’Loughlin, Tony O’Connell, Gerry O’Connor; football development committee, Seamus Byrne, Maurice Reidy, Michael Murray, John O’Malley, John O’Sullivan; field committee, John Cleary, Michael O’Loughlin, Paddy Egan, John Reidy, Tomás McKenna, Robbie Healy, John Malone, Joe Talty, Willie Healy, Gerard Talty; Intermediate team management, David O’Brien (manager), Martin Curtin, Robbie Healy, Andy Tierney and Trevor Slattery.

U-21'S pipped in championship tie

St. Josephs Miltown's club teams continued their unfortunate run of narrow defeats in 2012 when the u-21 side were pipped by Lissycasey in the u-21 'A' championship on last weekend. Miltown were missing the services of county u-21 Michéal Malone through injury but could still have won against a Lissycasey side that won the minor 'A' three years ago. Two goals from Lissycasey full forward Danny Normoyle either side of half time proved the crucial scores. The Miltown team lined out as follows: Ciaran Flanagan, Colin McGuane, Martin Rynne, Eoin O'Brien (0-1), Sean Mahoney, Niall McGuane, Donal Keane, Darragh McDonagh, Conor Cleary (0-2), Tiernan O'Friel, Seanie Malone (1-3), Damian Lafferty, Tommy Flynn, Eoin Cleary (0-3), Enda Fox. subs used: Cathal Hogan for Enda Fox

Seniors fail to escape drop

St. Josephs Miltown senior side were relegated to intermediate for 2013 after another titanic battle with Lissycasey today in Cooraclare. In a game played in a very good spirit, a Lissycasey goal ten minutes into the second half was to prove the games defining moment. Miltown again enjoyed the better of the first half and lead 0-4 to 0-2 at the break. Unfortunately, a missed penalty for the second week in a row are moments that Miltown will think could have ensured safety. Joe Curtin assumed responsibility this week but luck was not on his side. In the second half, Miltown battled hard but the experienced Colin Lynch made some crucial plays following his introduction early in the second half. A Miltown side already missing players through injury lost Micheal Malone, Séan Meade and Enda O'Gorman to injury on the day. The team lined out as follows: Ciaran Flanagan, Brendan O'Brien, Enda O'Gorman, Enda Malone (0-1), Dara McDonagh, Gordon Kelly, Gearoid Curtin (0-1), Séan Meade (0-1), Micheal Malone, Kevin Keavey (0-1), Brian Curtin, Eoin Curtin (0-1), Dessie Molohan (0-2), Seanie Malone, Joe Curtin Subs used: Martin Rynne for Micheal Malone, Gerard Malone for Dessie Molohan, Michael Hehir for Enda O'Gorman, David Cleary for Séan Meade The club got a much needed boost in the afternoon when the u-13 side recorded a 1-12 to 0-4 victory over Eire Og in the Joe McCaw Cup shield final. Well done to all the players and management.

Seniors draw with Lissycasey

St. Josephs Miltown and Lissycasey played an entertaining 0-11 each draw in today's senior football relegation final. Miltown opened brightly but were unfortunate when Joe Hayes pulled of a fine save from an Eoin Curtin penalty. Miltown lead throughout the first half and lead 0-7 to 0-5 at the break. Lissycasey enjoyed the better of the first 20 minutes in the second half to edge ahead on a 0-9 to 0-8 scoreline. The last 10 minutes was very tense with Miltown missing some good chances before Gordon Kelly levelled in injury time. The team lined out as follows: Niall Quinn, Enda Malone, Enda O'Gorman, Brendan O'Brien, Gearoid Curtin, Gordon Kelly (0-2), Dara McDonagh, Sean Meade (0-1), Micheal Malone, Kevin Keavey (0-2), Brian Curtin, John Meade, Eoin Curtin (0-1), Seanie Malone (0-2), Dessie Molohan (0-2). Minors crash out at semi final stage

St. Josephs Miltown minor side saw their hopes of reaching the Minor division 1 final ended on Sunday as Kilmihil stormed to a comprehensive win. Miltown had defeated Kilmihil in the group stages and entered the game as underdogs due to the loss of Eoin Cleary in the forwards. On the day, Miltown can have no complaints as Kilmihil won a 4-10 to 0-8 scoreline. The club like to thank the management team of John O'Sullivan, Mick Murray, Mikie Neylon, Joe Talty along with all the players for the effort invested throughout the year

Seniors on the brink

St. Josephs Miltown seniior side are one game away from relegation to the intermediate ranks for 2013 after a disappointing defeat to St, Breckans on Sunday. Miltown lost out on a 0-14 to 0-9 scoreline having left themselves with far too much to do after a very poor first half performance when playing into a very strong breeze. The team lined out as follows: Niall Quinn, Enda Malone, Sean Meade, Enda O'Gorman, Seanie Malone, Gordon Kelly, Gearoid Curtin, John Meade (0-1), Dara McDonagh, Kevin Keavey (0-1), Micheal Malone (0-1), Brian Curtin (0-1), Eoin Curtin, Dessie Molohan (0-5), Gerard Malone Subs used: Joe Curtin for Gerard Malone. A knee injury which has ended Graham Kelly's season is a big blow to Miltown's hopes of survival ahead of the relegation final with Lissycasey in two weeks.
