u-16's reach county final

St. Josephs Miltown continued their successful season when they defeated Doora Barefield in the semi final of the u-16 championship on a 1-15 to 2-4 scoreline.
Miltown were always in control in the game played at Quilty and deservedly booked a final spot. The final is scheduled for bank holiday Monday evening in Cooraclare with a 7pm start. Everyone is encouraged to get out and provide support in this big occasion for the club.

The extract below is taken from a preview of the game as available on the hoganstand.com website.

Wolfe Tones na Sionna v St. Joseph's Miltown Malbay

Both sides are here on merit with some of the county's best U16 Footballers in action next Monday evening in Cooraclare at 7 pm. Wolfe Tones went through the group stages unbeaten defeating Miltown previously on a score of 2-7 to 0-4 in round 5. They continued their impressive form with a hard fought 5-10 v 1-8 victory over Cooraclare last Monday evening to reach their second final Division 1 final in a row. On the other hand Miltown, apart from their prior loss to the Shannon team and one slip up against St. Joseph's Doora/Barefield, went on to play some outstanding football in reaching the last four. Here they inflicted revenge on Doora/Barefield with an eight point win, 1-15 to 2-4. Wolfe Tones who were defeated at this stage by Kilmurry Ibrickane last year, have key operators in Daragh Downes, William Flynn, Damien Casey, Sean Reidy, Jack Carrig, Daniel Brennan and Sixmilebridge duo Mark Hehir and David Murphy. Milltown will enter the game as outsiders and they have a number of fine footballers in the form of Donal Keane, Seamie Parra, Eoin and Conor Cleary, Aidan McGuane, Kevin Downes, Michael Hamilton and Luke Reidy. This promises to be a good game between the two best sides in the county at this level. Indeed the two clubs have clashed regularly at all underage levels and when they last met in a final it was the Shannon team who were victorious when they beat the Maroon and Amber in the U14 Feile Peil na nOg Final of 2008. As for Monday's game, Wolfe Tones seem to be the better team and they should have enough to bring back the U16 Division 1 cup to the town of Shannon for the first time since 2004.
